Cinema Shelf — Free Personal Movie Tracker & Watchlist

Your Personal Movie Collection, Organised

Cinema Shelf is a free, browser-based movie tracker. Catalogue every film you've watched and plan what to see next, with rich metadata pulled automatically from The Movie Database (TMDB). No account, no ads, no tracking — your collection is stored locally in your browser and stays private to you.

Features

  • TMDB enrichment — auto-fetch posters, directors, cast, genres, country, and plot.
  • Watch status & ratings — mark films watched or to-watch, rate out of five, add notes and watch dates.
  • Smart search & filters — find any movie by title, director, cast, genre, or country.
  • Grid & list views — sort by title, year, rating, or date added.
  • Bulk import — CSV, JSON, plain-text lists, and Letterboxd diary exports (ratings and watch dates preserved).
  • Export & backup — download CSV or generate a printable PDF of your library.
  • Dashboard — totals, top genres, top directors, recently watched.
  • Dark & light mode — fully responsive on phone, tablet, and desktop.

How it works

  1. Add a movie — search by title and let TMDB fill in the details.
  2. Organise & track — set watch status, rate, and browse your collection.
  3. Export anytime — back up to CSV or print a PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cinema Shelf free?

Yes. Cinema Shelf is completely free with no account, subscription, or payment required.

Where is my movie data stored?

All data lives in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, so your collection stays private and accessible only on the device you use.

Can I import my Letterboxd diary?

Yes. Export your Letterboxd diary or watched list as CSV, then upload it through the Import tab. Ratings and watched dates are mapped automatically.

Will I lose my collection if I clear my browser?

Because data is stored locally, clearing browser storage will remove it. Use the CSV export regularly to keep a portable backup.

Does Cinema Shelf work on mobile?

Yes — the interface is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops in both light and dark mode.
